has positive dog training reached its peak?

I'm back to posting on this new blog with an interesting question for you all: is positive dog training finally where it should be?

In the rise of dominance training years back with Cesar Millan's "The Dog Whisperer", positive trainers have worked tirelessly to show that their techniques are truly the most humane and effective way to teach dogs. There are countless studies that show that dogs are a lot different than wolves and are best taught with positive reinforcement.

There are still people who watch "The Dog Whisperer". There are still people who use physical punishment and yell at their dogs. There are still trainers who use debunked old school methods and there are still dog owners that want everyone to train this way.

However, there is such a strong urge for positive training to be the new normal. I wonder if anyone has decided to take a break from the advocacy and ask themselves if the goal has been achieved. I'm not saying you shouldn't openly support positive training, because you should, but what if positive training has earned it's place in the universal way dogs should be taught?

I personally think positive training has gotten where it should in the dog world, and that's something I'm proud of. However, that doesn't mean I won't stop preaching it's importance and using it to teach dogs and teach others.
